Type: Projector

Everyone falls into one of four main Types as shown on their BodyGraph: Generators (including Manifesting Generators), Projectors, Manifestors, and Reflectors. Each Type has its own Strategy to navigate life with more ease and move along the most fulfilling path — we sometimes say the correct Geometry.

An overview of your Type

Of the four Types, you are a Projector. Projectors are around 21% of the population. As a Projector, your purpose is to guide others once you are recognized for your skills. Being a guide can take many forms, from leading a volunteer group to being an advisor to a company. Projectors have the capacity to see the big picture; they can recognize the potential in others and know how to bring people together in order to advance any given project. As you gain experience, you develop the ability to see clearly what others need to maximize their potential and fulfill their goals, and how they can realize their objectives in the most efficient way.

What you are looking for is to be given the opportunity to guide and advise; because of your natural openness and ability to understand the needs and expectations of others, you can help advance this process by asking the right questions. Projectors also have a capacity to organize and be networkers, and can therefore easily step into the role of advisor and administrator.

To be fulfilled and find success, Projectors need to bring their insight and expertise to provide support and guidance to others, and to be recognized for what they do. You may have spent much of your life feeling anxious about receiving that recognition, and whether others notice your skills. You may have acted on that anxiety, and found yourself in situations, experiences, or relationships that were not correct for you. Because you long for recognition, you try to meet the expectations of others and end up compromising your power. The result of this anxiety and the actions you take as a result can be experiences that lead to disappointment and bitterness, rather than success. Understanding the Projector’s Strategy, which is discussed in the next section, will help you reconcile your struggle between acting in order to be recognized and seeking fulfillment and success.

Non-Energy Type

Projectors are referred to as a non-energy Type because they have no consistent, reliable means of generating energy. This leads them to gain experiential wisdom for how to use energy in a way that maximizes productivity and available resources; in turn, they can apply this knowledge to support energy Types (Generators and Manifestors) in realizing their goals, as they can assess how their potential is best utilized.

How can you make the most of these skills? First, as a Projector, you must understand the effect you have on others. Some welcome your insight and ability to offer guidance — others do not. Understanding what you are called to do in life and how others perceive you will help you understand why the recommended approaches to Strategy and Authority are the key to your success. Your guide to living in accordance with your Strategy and Authority is explained in the sections that follow.

Strategy: Wait for the Invitation

The importance of Strategy in Human Design

Each of the four Types has a particular Strategy for approaching the world. Understanding and using the Strategy associated with your Type opens the way to a more fulfilling life. We all have been conditioned by our early environment and culture to see ourselves in ways that aren’t necessarily true to who we are, or to go about things in ways that aren't correct for us. Learning to use our Strategy effectively eliminates that conditioning and reveals our true nature, and how we can live a more authentic life.

An overview of your Strategy

Your Strategy as a Projector is simple: Wait for the Invitation.

Though you may clearly see where your guidance is needed and how you can best support others, to be successful you cannot offer your advice and insight. The Projector is most successful when they wait for others to recognize their skills and empower their potential to guide by asking for support, and the invitation gives you that opportunity.

Because Projectors need to be recognized, you may have been conditioned to think you need to draw attention to yourself. But if you initiate the roles you take on, rather than waiting for the invitation, you’ll find yourself stepping in as a guide in roles that aren’t right for you. When your expertise isn’t acknowledged, it can lead to feelings of bitterness, and bitterness is the main quality of a Projector who’s life doesn’t bring them fulfillment. Remember that the right opportunities for you are the ones others invite you into. Once you begin to experiment with this Strategy, over time you will also learn when to decline invitations if they are not right for you.

Experimenting with your Strategy

The idea of waiting to be invited to take action is likely a new concept for you. But it also means there are many ways in which waiting to be invited before you engage can bring welcome change to your life and outlook.

In your everyday life, invitations are signposts that facilitate your process of navigating this life. Friends who invite you to attend an event or a gathering may lead you to meet the right people who are essential for your next step on the journey. Or these events may turn out to simply be pleasant encounters that nevertheless carry a recognition from others who notice your gifts. And if an invitation isn’t forthcoming, it just means that person or that event wasn’t meant to be at the center of your life.

As you experiment with your Strategy over time, your experience with it will make these opportunities and recognitions easier to discern. So begin to experiment with your approach to invitations, and notice how things change for you when you’re following the Strategy that is right for you.

Authority: Emotional Authority

The Importance of Inner Authority in Human Design

So much of life is about making the right decisions. It’s stressful when we aren’t sure if our approach to decision-making is the right one. Most of us were taught to make decisions by using our mind and you may have found that approach doesn’t always work well.

Human Design teaches that we are all born with an Inner Authority. For each person, their Inner Authority reveals one of the most important things in life: how they can best make decisions as the unique individual they are.

An Overview of your Inner Authority

Your BodyGraph shows you have a defined Solar Plexus and therefore possess Emotional Authority. That means your guide in life is found in experiencing a range of emotions before finding clarity about any particular issue or situation.

Emotional Authority asks that you rely on your emotions, and to be patient and wait out your emotional wave before making a decision. This may surprise you as Western culture often urges us to set emotions aside, but for you, emotions are a reliable guide. Those with Emotional Authority can go through a wide array of feelings about any subject over a period of days or even weeks.

All your feelings, whether they are pleasant or difficult to process, inform your decisions, as long as you hold off making decisions until you’ve experienced the full array of your feelings and find clarity.

Experimenting with Emotional Authority

Despite what you have been taught throughout your life, the mind is not equipped to make decisions. Though it is an extraordinary tool for analyzing, assessing, reflecting and creating, it can only ponder decisions, working out the pros and cons. In addition, the mind has been conditioned by various outside forces, each of which is clouding your judgment, making it difficult to know which choice to make.

As a being with Emotional Authority, your emotions move consistently within you – from the highs of hope and joy to the lows of pain and sadness. Because your emotions follow this wave-like pattern, you need to wait out the ups and downs of your feelings about a particular situation or whether to accept an invitation before you can reach clarity about what to do.

If you wait out your emotional wave, you will discover that your emotions provide you with great depth about any decision, enabling you to see and feel things from different perspectives. So it’s vital to embrace your emotions over time and allow wisdom and answers to arise slowly from within, rather than making impulsive decisions in the moment.

Wait for the invitation, then wait for clarity!

By combining your Strategy and your emotional approach to Inner Authority, you have the template for making decisions in a way that’s natural to you, and that guides you to the most fulfilling and successful path. The Strategy of the Projector is to wait for recognition and the invitation. Then your Emotional Authority asks that you give yourself time to run through all the emotions it brings up so you can evaluate each emotion, and finally make your decision.

Given that your emotions take time to express themselves, your motto is “There is no truth in the Now.” This is because at any moment, you are experiencing life from a particular point in your emotional “wave,” rather than seeing the situation from the full spectrum of your emotions. If you do not give yourself time to move through the wave of emotions, you are likely to jump into things that may not be correct for you while on the high end of your wave, and you are just as likely to turn down opportunities and invitations that may be good for you when you’re feeling low.

It can also be challenging for Projectors as they can get hooked into the energy field of others, which adds to the confusion. It is therefore crucial to be patient and let your emotions express themselves before making a decision. While at times this might take just a day or two to think things over, at others you may need to wait and discuss things to find clarity, especially if facing a major decision.

This is probably a new approach for you, but consider times you’ve acted spontaneously and ended up experiencing regret. If you’ve been taught it’s not acceptable to keep people waiting, let that go as conditioning that isn’t helpful to you. The people who are meant to be in your life will be willing to wait for you to reach clarity.

As you experiment with your Strategy and Inner Authority, you set out on an insightful journey of discovery. You begin to align yourself with who you are and how to move through the world in ways that can bring you fulfillment and success.

Aura: Focused

Meeting your needs as a Projector

Human Design tells each Type what they need to be fully functional and fulfilled, and navigate life with more ease. As a Projector, your needs are best served through education and adequate rest.

Expertise through education

As a Projector you are here to master systems, and this means that one of the most important things for your development is education. It is through proper education that you are able to fulfill your purpose and achieve success. For others to recognize you as a guide, you need to master an area of expertise, in whatever area you feel called to. Projectors also need to develop an understanding of how individuals and groups work together more efficiently, and will benefit from studying systems that offer tools to expand their skill set and improve their competency.

Adequate rest

Another thing that’s crucial to the Projector’s well-being is rest. As a Projector you don't have a built in potential for generating because you don’t have consistent access to energy resources. Have you experienced that feeling of getting pumped up when you’re surrounded by others? That’s your aura taking in their energetic frequency, or buzz. Once you’ve taken energy in from others it takes time for it to leave your body so you can unwind. The same is true for a project you take on, or any kind of work you immerse yourself in. Make sure you don't spend yourself to the point of exhaustion; pay attention and when you reach your limit, it’s time to withdraw.

For optimal rest, it’s best to give yourself time to relax before you go to sleep. It’s not healthy for you to go to bed exhausted and wired from being with others. Instead, create a space you can retreat to for a period of time in order to release the auric energies you have absorbed from others throughout the day. And if possible, try to sleep in your own aura — alone — as often as possible so that your body can truly relax and cleanse itself of excess energy without taking in the energy of someone else. This way, you will feel recharged when you awake the next day.

Understanding the Focused Projector Aura

Something else to understand about being a Projector is how your aura works. The Projector has a probing and focused aura and because of their openness, they can take in the energies and expectations of others. They are therefore at their best when one-on-one with another human being. It is because of their openness that they can see the potential in others, and can be a great ally to those who welcome this gift. But this can also make others uncomfortable, which is why it’s so important to wait to be recognized; the invitation lets you know that the other is allowing you to see them, and offers you access to reliable energy resources that allow you to accomplish your tasks.

Your Not-Self Strategies

Your mind urges you to engage with your Not-Self Strategies — this can be a desire to make spontaneous decisions, or trying to initiate action to prove yourself, and not recognizing when you overextend yourself physically. (More on this in Conditioning.)

If you think back on your life, you may begin to recognize that these are recurring themes. Others will have sensed your need to be seen and recognized and may have perceived it as demanding or needy, which caused resistance. You might also notice that these tendencies cloud your judgment, and that when you have made decisions based on these strategies, you often experienced negative results.

Putting it all together

As you experiment with your Strategy and Inner Authority, you set out on an insightful journey of discovery. You are aware that education and adequate rest are keys for you, and that taking as much time as you need to process your emotional waves is crucial for you to make the right decision. In understanding that you have a focused aura, you are aware that your ability to ‘see’ others can be overwhelming and that waiting for the invitation will let you know others welcome that insight. Finally, you understand the importance of disengaging from conditioned strategies that are not correct for you: mainly, initiating action to guide others and receive recognition, without having been invited into the process. With this insight to guide you, you are ready to align yourself with who you are, and move through the world in ways that bring you fulfillment and well being.

Introduction to Profile

Profile recognizes the basic duality in each of us—the synthesis of our conscious Personality and unconscious Design. Each of us lives out the combination of two of the six themes, or primary roles: Role Model, Heretic, Opportunist, Martyr, Hermit and Investigator.

The keys to Personality and Design can be traced to the Line value of your Sun and Earth hexagrams, which we combine and call your “Profile” in Human Design.

Profile is the costume you wear, a role you play in life so that your purpose (Incarnation Cross) can reveal itself and make your life performance unique. It is another way to differentiate you as a unique being.

3/5 - Martyr Heretic

You are resilient, adaptable and an agent for change. A main theme in your life is the trial-and-error process, discovering what does and does not work on the material plane. Your life is about experimentation and experiential investigation, adapting and refining as you go through a variety of experiences.

As a third-line personality, your learning entails bumping into things and people as if by chance. These so-called chance encounters provide you with the opportunities needed for your discovery process. You face personal and career challenges, because it’s natural for you to make and break bonds. But no matter what transpires, your secret in life is to stay with your process; you are not here to quit and give up because life is full of trial and error.

To be able to stay with the same thing instead of jumping from job to job, it is necessary to do work that is stimulating, and that continuously offers new things to do. In your personal life, you need relationships in which you have the opportunity to withdraw and have your own space, yet still feel comfortable in being able to re-engage and re-make the bond.

Once you apply strategy and authority and engage in what for you is a correct process, you show considerable resilience, determination and adaptability to move through the challenges life brings. Often, you may be surprised to encounter a situation that opens up a whole new way. Ultimately, you are here to master the material plane and come up with truly innovative concepts.

Inside a 3/5 lives an anarchist willing to tear things down and fix them. Through a practical, experiential process of learning from mistakes, a 3/5 either moves on or re-engages to find a way of making things work. Others project this capacity on you, and it takes quite some determination not to be deterred even when things go wrong, but to have the resolve to continue your explorations and fix things. You can then provide innovative solutions and guidance to create foundations for others to build on. Over time, your trial-and-error process will enhance the qualities of adaptation and resilience, and through your experiences you ultimately gather a wealth of experiential wisdom.

Type + Profile Synthesis — 3/5 Projector

Throughout your discovery, you will receive a variety of invitations, often out of the blue. It is essential to be clear in your response and only accept invitations that are valuable and right for you. Only when you are properly invited and ready to accept the invitation will the experience be valuable for you, regardless of the outcome. After all, this is your process of discovery, and learning through mistakes is an essential part – but only if the mistake was valuable and contributes to your overall experience of learning. Others will project that you are able to offer practical solutions, and for a projector to be recognized is essential. Otherwise, the accumulation of experiences entered into through following invitations that were not correct for you can leave you feeling bitter, with a sense that nothing truly works.

In relationships and within your work environment, it is important that others recognize your need for space, to give you the freedom to move through a variety of experiences so there is a continuum in your experience instead of the feeling that you are simply changing and moving on. This way you will receive the recognition that allows you to fulfill your purpose.

Incarnation Crosses

Introduction to Incarnation Crosses

“We are all very specific fractals of great archetypes. We live that out through our Cross.” — Ra Uru Hu

Incarnation Crosses reveal our life's purpose. Our life’s activity is expressed as our purpose, captured in our Incarnation Cross and lived out through our Profile—the costume we wear. Our Incarnation Crosses are not something we are entitled to or something inevitable, nor do they automatically emerge as we go through our deconditioning process. Only when we function as our unique, differentiated self will the theme of the Cross start to express itself through us, and reveal the purpose of this lifetime.

Once we are in alignment with our individual path, our Cross and Profile naturally take over to express our awareness potential in this life. Fulfilling our purpose takes patience and discipline, as well as the ability to make the right decisions.

Introduction to Right Angle

People who come in on a right-angle Cross are essentially self-absorbed and self-involved. You are primarily focused on your own process. Though you may have as much interaction with others as do the left-angle Crosses, your journey is your own and does not require others to play an important (karmic) part. You are not going to find clarity through the other but only through yourself, and your own journey through life.

Right Angle Cross of Eden (11/12 | 6/36)

People who need to come to terms with life in the physical body and living in the physical reality of our world. There is a yearning underneath to return to the ideal state of being. They are often educators who teach others about the nature of experience, physical as well as emotional. They have a philosophical perspective about life and their own ideas and concepts about the world. They tend to point toward the experience of crisis and hardship that comes with earthly existence, often using the arts to communicate their philosophical musings.

Quarter: Quarter of Mutation

You were born in the Quarter of Mutation, with a theme of purpose fulfilled through Transformation. In this quarter we complete our journey, and you collect all that you have learned and experienced to get to a place where you can accept the process and purpose of being in life. Here we look to find meaning and truth, to experience the satisfaction of a life fully lived and to attain our full potential for transformation and awareness.

Nodal Polarities

Introduction to Nodal Polarities

In Human Design Analysis, the Nodes of the Moon divide life into two basic dynamics: the South and North Node phases. The Nodes are not planets, but positions—points where the path of the Moon crosses the ecliptic—and constitute an essential aspect of our Design.

The South Node phase is the developmental stage of experiencing early life until we reach our Uranus Opposition at around 38–43 years. The transition from the South Node to the North Node symbolizes that point when we have reached a place of maturity.

The theme of our North Nodes sets the stage for the mature way of experiencing life after our Uranus Opposition, when we shift from the South to the North Node and move toward a place of accomplishment and fulfillment. During the North Node phase we integrate our learning experience from the first half of life.

The Personality South Node, through the Gate/Line it activates, illustrates how we perceive the world around us and the perspectives we develop about it during the first half of life. On the Design side, it describes the early environments that form the background within which we experience life.

Personality

Personality

Each Cross contributes a specific facet, an archetype that is expressed and brought alive through us to form the world we live in. We are each an aspect of the totality and bring a unique contribution to the unfolding of the whole. Our Cross embodies the full expression of our potential for awareness.

An Incarnation Cross is formed by the crossing polarities of the Personality and Design Sun/Earths. The Sun and Earth are always exactly opposite each other in the wheel of the Mandala. The two Human Design Calculations are made approximately 88-89 days apart. If you were to place the positions of the Personality and Design Sun/Earths in a wheel and draw lines to join the Sun/Earth oppositions, the result would be a cross.

The Personality North Node reveals the perspectives we develop about the world in our second half of life while the Design North Node delineates how we experience and relate to our environment.

This is the planetary imprint at the moment of birth and is coded in black (light mode) or white (dark mode) in the BodyGraph. The Personality represents what you have conscious access to. These are things you know about yourself and will recognize and identify with. The Personality is who you think you are.

Gate 11 — Peace — The Gate of Ideas

A harmonic condition in the individual or society that permits assessment before renewed action.

Analysis

This Gate is about exploring ideas, and the need to be stimulated through ideas that can be shared with others. You look to make sense of the past, and depending on the way you remember and process past experiences, you conceptualize ideas that can turn into ideals and the formation of belief systems.

Keep in mind that ideas come and go, and this process is about reflection and the possibility for inspiration. These ideas cannot be used as guidelines for your own life process; this can only lead to confusion and disappointment. Ideas are to be shared with others, to serve as inspiration for their own process.

Gate 12 — Standstill — The Gate of Caution

The quality of restraint and the importance of meditation and inaction in confronting temptation.

Analysis

You have a unique way of expressing yourself and can be very articulate when in the right mood. You naturally exercise restraint and are cautious about the way you express your views as you are intent on being understood by others.

Your unique perceptions, if expressed at the right moment and when in the right mood, can have a profound and transformative impact on others. It is also through your tone and the frequency behind your words that you creatively express yourself, not merely through the words themselves.

Art is a good medium for you, such as the use of poetry or music to translate your perceptions. With the right timing you have the potential to greatly impact cultural norms and our ways of interaction. If the mood is not there, most likely you will not be heard. This is also a gate of silence, and you greatly benefit from stillness and contemplation to let your message mature.

Gate 25 — Innocence — The Gate of the Spirit of the Self

The perfection of action through uncontrived and spontaneous nature.

Analysis

Here we find the quality of impersonal or universal love, a love that naturally and unconditionally flows toward all life. This quality is not personal or emotional but the indiscriminate love for all living things, and expresses as surrender to one’s own Self.

In essence, the quality of uncontrived nature is grounded in the spirit of your Self. There is a mystical quality to this love that engages you in challenging experiences to test the innocence of your spirit, and it is this innocence that is your ‘shield of protection’ whenever your inherent warrior’s spirit is called out to compete and transcend the limitations of the mundane world.

This is the spiritual warrior ready to take on challenges that come with Initiation, to stretch beyond the limits of what is known and comfortable. With each step, the innocence and beauty of your spirit is realized and enriched, and deep wisdom found that can empower others on their journey.

Gate 37 — The Family — The Gate of Friendship

The manifestation macro- and micro-cosmically of the organic nature of communities.

Analysis

This is the most communal gate in the Bodygraph; people with this gate show a natural warmth and openness toward others. With your friendly and engaging nature, you can hold a family or community structure together, bonded in mutual support. Your role is to ensure that harmony and mutual support are maintained. Your orientation is toward emotional connection with others, and your sensitivity easily perceives whether others are open. Others look to you to present their organization, cause or anything that needs to reach out toward others as your natural warmth easily engages others.

Your bonds with others, whether in a family structure or larger organization, are built on a bargain with your role as the distributor of assets or services. This exchange depends on your emotional wave and it is crucial that you take time before entering into any bond, such as marriage etc., where loyalty and support form the basis. You need to keep adjusting to the changing dynamics of a relationship and your role in it to avoid feeling trapped.

Gate 40 — Deliverance — The Gate of Aloneness

The point of transition between struggle and liberation.

Analysis

Here we find a love of work, and you have the willpower to work long and hard. You naturally take on the role of provider within a tribal or communal structure, and to contribute to or look after the needs of those within your family or community. At the same time, you need sufficient rest, as your ability to work depends on your willpower, which can only take you so far.

You need time alone, to be able to step away for certain periods from the dynamics of interdependence that form the communal structure you are part of. Be sure to maintain healthy boundaries and to get the rest and time alone you need to recuperate. To successfully sustain the role of provider, it is vital that you are part of a healthy dynamic structure with those who depend on you, and that your work is satisfactory and appreciated by others. This is the basis of the bargain; your willingness to provide depends on the loyalty, appreciation and support of those you provide for.

Gate 10 — Treading — The Gate of the Behaviour of the Self

The underlying code of behaviour which ensures successful interaction despite circumstances.

Analysis

You are here to express what it means to live uniquely as yourself, which ultimately expresses itself as self-love. The 10th Gate is the Gate of the love of oneself; you have a particular role (of behavior), which when you surrender to it, expresses authentically as yourself. The way this is expressed is through one of the six roles of behavior, guided by your intuition if connected to Gate 57, empowered by your Sacral if connected to Gate 34, or expressed as your unique voice through Gate 20.

With this Gate you have a natural sense of how to behave as yourself, no matter where you find yourself or who you are with. You also have a keen sense of how others behave, which can almost lead to a sense of embarrassment when someone is behaving in a way you consider incorrect. As you develop self-love through accepting and loving what makes you unique, you in turn empower others to find self-love. This is a very important aspect of humanity's development as true awakening can only happen through self-love, being surrendered and committed to living life as oneself.

When following your Strategy and Authority, this Gate empowers your potential to live authentically as yourself. As you express your unique behavior, you naturally encourage others to be themselves as well. This is ultimately a commitment to being authentic through acceptance and love of oneself.

Gate 14 — Possession in great measure — The Gate of Power Skills

The accumulation and retention of power through skilled interaction, coupling grace with control.

Analysis

This is a deeply material gate that supplies the entire energy for the 'material way.' This is about having access to resources and material wealth, and the power and skill to distribute and direct resources in a way that supports our need for change and mutation so we can survive as a species. Inherent here is the power to follow one’s unique direction in life, which ultimately benefits the direction of the whole.

This gate empowers oneself as well as others towards investing resources that keep us evolving and expanding. You have immense energy available for any endeavor and task that you enjoy, and if aligned with your path, you are capable of generating substantial resources not only for personal gain but to be distributed so that change is possible and our direction maintained.

You have the skill and power to release resources in a way that supports mutation and ensures we continue in the right direction.

Gate 21 — Biting Through — The Gate of the Hunter/Huntress

The justified and necessary use of power in overcoming deliberate and persistent interference.

Analysis

You need to be in control of your own affairs and your territory, and to be given the responsibilities within your domain. This gate represents a strong force on the material plane and you need to ensure that you are in charge of your own resources and fundamental aspects of life, such as where you live, what you wear, how you make a living, etc.

You deeply resent being told what to do and would rather 'bite through' the conditioning forces of the material plane to exercise a measure of independence and control. It is essential, though, that you follow your strategy and authority so as not to encounter others’ resistance if you try to assume power or control over those around you, which you may feel compelled to do.

Ultimately, your purpose lies in serving the needs of others as much your own, and what benefits you will also benefit them.

Gate 8 — Holding Together — The Gate of Contribution

The basic worth realized in contributing individual efforts to group goals.

Analysis

With Gate 8 defined in your chart, you carry the need to contribute something unique to the collective. This can manifest in various different creative ways, from demonstrating a truly individual lifestyle to being involved in any kind of artistic project. You need to attract the attention of others to make a contribution in your unique way, which will ultimately create an identity for you. This can also happen through empowering the creative potential of others, people who connect to you through Gate 1 at the other end.

You are attracted to unique and innovative ways of expression and can be a major force in helping these energies to manifest, such as working in the field of creative arts where you can contribute by promoting others who carry creative potential. You are drawn to what is new and innovative and contribute through calling the attention of others to what you see carries potential mutation, something that can change the direction of the collective. This is your way of quietly impacting the world around you. Unless you carry Gate 1 in your chart (creative expression), your role is to recognize the creative potential of the other and promote the new and mutative potential.

Gate 58 — The Joyous — The Gate of Vitality

Stimulation is the key to joy.

Analysis

You have a zest for life, and derive great joy and pleasure from being alive and in this world. Your appreciation for the beauty and wonder of life drives you to contribute your energy toward improving any condition that keeps our society from experiencing well-being and satisfaction while we move into the future. You bring a vitality to life that is fundamental to your way of being in the world.

This gate carries the fuel to correct and to challenge, to provide the energy needed to ensure humanity’s safe progress. You provide the energy to challenge conditions and patterns that need to be improved, to adjust things that are out of balance. When your energy is focused and channeled in the right direction, you can contribute things of lasting value to the collective.

Gate 1 — The Creative — The Gate of Self-Expression

Creation as a primal force. The energy potential to manifest inspiration without limitation.

Analysis

Gate 1 is the drive to express oneself in a unique and creative way. You feel a deep need to express your individuality in a way that is truly authentic, a dominant theme for you. You have the ability to focus deeply on your own creative process, and while you demand attention, you remain unconcerned with opinions and ideas of the world around you.

The Collective with its established rules does not impact you, or how you express yourself. Expressing your unique authentic being is rooted in taking your own direction. This has great impact on others, and as you demonstrate new ways of expression, you may be an example to others and even inspire them to take new directions.

For your creative expression to be acknowledged, you need to interact with those who recognize your potential. You feel attracted to people who carry Gate 8 at the other end of the Channel as they can help you exteriorize your work. This way you can become a role model for others and truly impact the collective with your creative work.

Design

This is the planetary imprint 88° of the Sun (88-89 days) before birth and is coded in red in the BodyGraph. The Design represents the nature of your unconscious. It stands for your bio-genetic inheritance, the themes of your ancestors that influence you unconsciously. While others will recognize these themes within you, you will learn to recognize your unconscious over time.

Gate 6 — Conflict — The Gate of Friction

The fundamental design component of progress. The law that growth cannot exist without friction.

Analysis

This gate determines if emotional intimacy happens or not. Its function is to control the flow of emotions from the solar plexus, and you are either open or closed to intimacy. Here we deal with moods, sensitivity, and feelings, and you naturally create the friction necessary to engage in intimacy.

This is a mechanic that operates when you are in someone else's aura, not something you consciously or intentionally do. It creates the heat necessary for intimacy and possibly reproduction. Your body either opens or closes depending on whether there is a resonance to the other. In this way, you naturally preserve a boundary between your body and the outside world. There is also a fear of intimacy associated with this gate, and generally it needs gate 59 to break down barriers to intimacy.

Gate 36 — The Darkening of the Light — The Gate of Crisis

The rule of cycles in which decline is a natural but not enduring stage.

Analysis

You are here to have profound and intense emotional/sexual experiences through which to mature. This process is about confronting inherent fears and vulnerabilities to grow through emotionally challenging experiences.

You crave experiences that trigger release of a deep reservoir of feelings and emotions. This can take you through cycles of extreme highs and lows; to experience crisis is inevitably part of the process that ultimately leads to change and transformation. This is a deeply challenging journey and your intensity can be stimulating but also easily overwhelm others.

Over time, as you find emotional clarity through surrender to the inevitable ups and downs, you develop the maturity to handle crisis and learn from it rather than being overwhelmed by it. This takes you to discover your own emotional depth and truth.

Gate 63 — After Completion — The Gate of Doubt

In the spiral of life, all ends are beginnings.

Analysis

The doubt of Gate 63 is experienced as the need to question those things one does not feel secure about, from the mundane to life’s bigger questions. There is always a risk when focusing this doubt on your life and choices as it is more naturally designed to be an outer authority; in other words, it is a tool for others and the world around you.

You have the ability to ‘see’ patterns and will naturally question a pattern if you see that it is inherently weak or inconsistent, and look for a workable solution—or another pattern. You are focused on the future, and therefore looking for logical answers that can be validated and relied upon to provide security in the future. If there are no logical answers to your questions, you will experience this as doubt in the form of consistent pressure until there is an adequate solution.

Here we find the root of scientific discovery, looking to test and validate a pattern to move securely into the future: a skeptical mind with a focus on the future, pressured to find those patterns that hold up to the scrutiny of the logical mind.

Gate 64 — Before Completion — The Gate of Confusion

Transition, like birth, requires a determined strength for the passage through.

Analysis

You are under constant mental pressure to make sense of the past. Your mind is imprinted with a consistent flow of data, a myriad of images generated through the memory of past experiences. Underlying this is no apparent order, and therefore confusion is part of your process. Your mind filters and sorts through these impressions in an attempt to connect the dots until an experience makes sense.

Remember not to feel overwhelmed by the confusion, but to see it as part of the natural process and a preamble to the clarity that will emerge later. The perspective is to let the process resolve in its own way and time, as any attempt to resolve the pressure can only lead to increased anxiety and confusion.

Gate 32 — Duration — The Gate of Continuity

All that endures is change.

Analysis

You have an innate ability to recognize things that have lasting value in determining the material direction and continuity of your tribal community. You easily recognize those whose skills are valuable within the structure of the community, to ensure its continuity through a consistent process of change and transformation while maintaining aspects that offer stability.

There may be an inherent conflict within you regarding the need to combine progress with all its inherent risks with the need to maintain a secure, dependable status quo. Stay attuned to your instinctive sense that guides you through indecision so as to determine what has lasting value and what only hinders progress and can be safely discarded.

Gate 7 — The Army — The Role of the Self in Interaction

The point of convergence. By design, the need for leadership to guide and order society.

Analysis

You are oriented towards the future and able to see the direction that humanity is taking, based on an understanding of the fundamental patterns of evolution. You can see where the pattern needs correction and how it can be fixed or modified.

The roles we play are hereditary and mechanical, and through your role and understanding of society's future direction you are able to influence and persuade others to follow your leadership, or can influence those in positions of authority. You may be influential in pointing the collective towards a new direction. This role is not necessarily public but is nevertheless influential, “the power behind the throne.”

Gate 17 — Following — The Gate of Opinion

The ancient law that those who wish to rule must know how to serve.

Analysis

You look for answers to the doubts you experience, and to turn these answers into concepts and potential solutions. You need to understand how things work, and you can easily see how a particular pattern works.

As you look ahead into the future, the fears that naturally come up can only be abated through patterns and solutions that have been tested over time and can be relied on. Any answers you find at this point still need to be substantiated by facts and details, and can only be expressed as opinions.

With a connection to Gate 62 at the other end, concepts can be expressed and supported by facts and details. Without Gate 62, you can experience difficulties in finding the language to adequately express and communicate concepts. It’s important not to get fixated on opinions that cannot be substantiated by facts.

Gate 16 — Enthusiasm — The Gate of Skills

The great art of enriching life by the harmonic channelling of energy.

Analysis

You are skilled in many ways but need to learn to master any specific skill through repetition. You need to be strongly identified with a skill to dedicate yourself to a process that requires constant repetition to perfect a pattern (e.g. learning to play a piece of music). Then your skill can become art: the dancer becomes the dance.

Without needing a particular skill, this talent can also manifest as an art for living. You may feel insecure about lacking in depth; this can be overcome through dedication and consistent effort toward mastering a specific skill and bringing it to flowering.

Gate 44 — Coming to Meet — The Gate of Alertness

The success of any interaction is based on the absence of any preconditions.

Analysis

You have an instinctive awareness of others’ capabilities. Here, we find the prototype of the Personnel manager who can naturally assess others’ skills and proficiencies and instinctively selects the right person for the job.

Your memory of the failure or success of past experiences contributes to an instinctive alertness concerning survival patterns. You are alert to the needs of our survival as a species, rooted in an instinctive memory of patterns that are successful and support our wellbeing and material protection. You transmit this awareness to others and thereby impact the material orientation of your community/environment.

Split Definition

Introduction to Definition

When two Centers are connected to each other—when the Gates at either end of a Channel are activated—a Definition is formed. A Definition is what throughout life will be reliable and consistent. There are four different kinds of Definition:

  • Single Definition: A continuous connection

  • Split Definition: Two areas of definition separate from each other

As a Split Definition you have two defined areas in your Design that are not connected to each other. This means your natural focus is to find a way of connecting those two aspects of your Design to experience wholeness. This focus on the qualities of the Gate, Gates, or even Channels that would bridge your Split can become an obsession and blind you to what is actually correct for you. In a sense, you cannot see on one side because you think you don't have that something and will never have it, and on the other because you think that nobody will ever have it, and so you will never have it. These themes will naturally be a focus in your life. The Human Design System can help you become aware of what those themes are so you can learn to live with them and be at ease in your process.

You are generally looking for the qualities of the missing Gate or Channel that would bridge your Split as it appears you are lacking these qualities and this is something that needs to be corrected or fixed. This search naturally becomes a main focus in your life. These bridges will come mainly through others, which means that the quality, the essence of the way you feel about your life, is going to depend on the other.

As a Split Definition, you go through this process of finding that sense of completeness in yourself when you are in another’s aura, which can be very misleading. The fact that somebody creates a bridge for you as a Split Definition does not mean they are right for you. There are so many different human beings who can fulfill this role, and the planets in the transit program can also provide the same fulfillment.

Your geometry in life has always pulled you toward people who bridge your Split, and these people have a powerful effect on who you are. The conditioning that happens through the bridging of a Split has a huge impact on the Not-Self strategies of your mind. What does that mean? What we refer to as “Not-self” are these open, or white, areas in your Design that you look to fill, to complete, or correct out of a sense of lack, so your mind will come up with strategies for coping with this. But in fact they are not you; they don't define you—nothing is missing and you don't need to do anything about it. But here is where conditioning takes place due to your openness. This means you need to be very aware of who is in your life.

Human Design is about understanding the power of conditioning, and that it lives exclusively in your mind. It is these open aspects of your chart that cause you to look outside yourself and come up with answers that are not right for you. The only way to avoid this is to follow your Strategy and Authority. Strategy and Authority will provide you with the most important tool you have in this life—the ability to recognize and discern who belongs in your aura at any given time in any kind of relationship, because this is what makes the difference for you.

This will redefine your relationships; you will notice that as you follow your Strategy and Authority, relationships will naturally fade away because they don't work for you, and they are simply no longer correct for you. Meanwhile, new relationships will begin. Of all those things you thought were so important to have, that you thought you needed, a lot turned out to be problems and not solutions.

It is such a joy to be with the right person; it is something very special and uniquely so for you as a Split Definition. How do you realize this? Don’t let your mind decide who belongs in your life. Don't allow others in your life unless it is correct for you. Only then are you really going to be able to fulfill your potential, with or without bridges. This is when you can transcend all that through Strategy and Authority.

Introduction to Defined Centers

In the BodyGraph, a defined Center is colored in and always connected to another defined Center via a Channel.

There are 9 Centers, each of which has a specific quality and plays a different role when Defined or Undefined. Your Defined Centers reveal those aspects of yourself that are fixed and reliable throughout your life—you can trust them.

Metaphorically, you could say that what is defined is the ‘student’ and what is open is the ‘course’ of study.

Solar Plexus Center

Themes: Emotional Awareness, Abundance of Spirit, Moods, Feelings, Passions, Desires

Analysis

You have a defined Solar Plexus Center, which at its very core means you are an emotional person with emotional authority. Your emotions resemble a wave moving up and down, and it’s important to understand this is how you work. There’s no need to explain your sudden change of mood. In fact, making up external reasons for your feelings has a negative effect on your wellbeing.

To be emotional is to have awareness over time. This is one of your great gifts, but so often seen as a negative. When you process anything, for example a decision, the more time you give yourself, the more you see. You are designed to process everything over time, allowing yourself to see the good as well as the bad.

Most emotional people jump at things spontaneously, and the decisions they make are influenced by their emotional state. They feel great and say yes to something, even if it’s something they normally would not do. Or they feel down and low in their wave and dismiss something, even though it might be the right thing.

Patience is the first step to living a healthy life as an emotional person. Through patience comes clarity, and as you experiment with this, you will notice how rich your emotional depth is. You will find the highs and lows of your wave bring passion, excitement and even beauty in times of melancholy. By respecting your emotions and not allowing others to pressure you into making premature decisions, you can have deep and meaningful experiences.

Healthy vs Unhealthy

These are the healthy and unhealthy traits related to having a defined Solar Plexus Center.

Healthy Traits:

  • Waiting to be clear before making decisions

  • Understanding that emotions are a chemistry and there are no "reasons" for them

  • Not blaming others or situations for feelings and moods

  • Experiencing a very rich emotional depth in life

Unhealthy Traits:

  • Being impatient and making spontaneous decisions without waiting for clarity

  • Tending to identify with a particular phase of your wave, making decisions from that point, i.e. either a low or high point

  • Making up external reasons for feelings, rather than simply accepting your inner chemistry

  • Trying to escape the low end of the wave, always seeking the highs

Heart Center

Themes: Willpower, Ego, the Material World, Self Worth

Analysis

The Heart Center is a powerful motor that drives Willpower and Ego power, two very strong forces in the world.

You have a defined Heart Center, meaning you have reliable and consistent willpower as well as a powerful ego. You are equipped with confidence and a healthy sense of self-esteem, and thrive on being competitive. Together, these features give you the potential to succeed on the material plane. Making deals, bargains and promises is natural for you, and you are designed to commit your willpower to goals and targets. But you need to ensure that once you commit to something, you keep promises and deliver what is expected of you. That way, over time others develop trust in you, enhancing your self-esteem.

You understand how to handle the competitive field, and it is healthy for you to exercise your willpower. You need to be in control of your life and in charge of your own resources; it’s very important that you do not let others control or suppress your willpower or your natural ego energy, as this can be detrimental to your health. You know you are here to work, and you have the skills to work independently and be successful on the material plane. You generally use your willpower to work and provide for others, whether in your immediate family or greater community, but you need to be appreciated and rewarded for your work. It is also crucial to keep a balance between work and rest so not to overextend and exhaust yourself. However, if you shy away from work, you will lose your true power and sense of self-esteem.

You have a natural sense of pride and like to prove yourself. Be careful not to come across as too forceful or overbearing, though, as this only leads to resistance from the outside world.

Healthy vs Unhealthy

These are the healthy and unhealthy traits related to having a defined Heart Center.

Healthy Traits:

  • Having a powerful Ego

  • Being able to make commitments

  • Having an inherent sense of self-worth

  • Handling the competitive field by exerting your will power, or not

Unhealthy Traits:

  • Engendering distrust in others if you shy away from striking a bargain or making a promise

  • Becoming ill if you allow your will power to be controlled by someone else

  • Losing the trust of the community if you overvalue your own importance

  • Shying away from work and therefore losing your true power and sense of self-esteem

G Center

Themes: Identity, Love, and Direction

Analysis

You have a defined G Center, meaning you have a reliable sense of yourself. You know who you are and what you are able to give. You have a defined way of offering love, and don't feel the need to cling to love coming from another. You have the ability to know where and how you want to make progress, and you potentially have a defined sense of your quest or mission in life, which can lead to a powerful contribution.

Always remember that you are inherently a source of love and direction for others, therefore you can have quite an effect on those in your life. You may understand the direction humanity needs to take to further our evolution and in this way extend influence but only when invited to offer guidance and direction. At the same time, if you ignore what you know deep inside to be true about yourself and compromise your internal sense of direction yielding to the expectations of others, this can lead you to experience a loss of identity and futility regarding your mission in life.

Following your direction is not something you control or that can be changed, and as it is also the path to finding love, if others are not comfortable with your direction then it is a sign to part ways. Don’t let your mind make you believe that you are lost or have no place or direction in life. You will always overcome these feelings by following your Strategy and Authority.

Healthy vs Unhealthy

These are the healthy and unhealthy traits related to having a defined G Center.

Healthy Traits:

  • Having consistent and fixed direction and identity

  • Being a source of Love and Direction for others

  • Having a reliable sense of self and knowing what you are able to give

  • Having a defined way of offering love and not needing to cling to love coming from another

Unhealthy Traits:

  • Getting depressed if you repress what you know deep inside to be true about yourself to please others

  • Believing that you are lost and having no sense of your place or direction in life

Throat Center

Themes: Communication and Manifestation, Outlet for Expression, Metamorphosis

Analysis

You have a defined Throat Center, meaning you have a fixed way of expressing yourself, resulting in a consistent and reliable way of communication. The Throat center is also the center of Manifestation, meaning you have a certain way of acting, or doing things. However, you can speak and act too readily or inappropriately, talking too much and consequently losing your impact.

Because your way of expression is fixed, you can seem overwhelming to others, especially if your mind is dictating your life. Follow your Strategy and Authority to move forward in life without resistance and learn to speak when appropriate.

Healthy vs Unhealthy

These are the healthy and unhealthy traits related to having a defined Throat Center.

Healthy Traits:

  • Having a consistent way of expressing ideas, insights, or opinions

  • Having a stable and reliable way of communicating

  • Knowing where your true voice comes from, which allows you to speak your own truth

Unhealthy Traits:

  • Speaking or acting too readily or inappropriately, talking too much and therefore losing your impact

  • Seeming overwhelming to others, because your verbal style is fixed, especially if you are not following your Strategy

Introduction to Channels

The Channels in your BodyGraph represent the flow of your life force. Through each Channel, the life force expresses as a specific theme or energetic quality. A Channel is composed of two Gates and connects two Centers (Definition), thereby establishing communication or interaction between two Centers. Centers are the hubs that transform the energy, or frequency that moves through them. The Gates are entry and exit points for the flow of energy to and from the Centers, with each carrying a specific theme.

The life force of a Channel, if defined (colored) in your chart is communicated to others through your Aura, and expresses aspects of your fundamental nature. The theme of a defined Channel represents your unique gifts as well as potential limitations, and is something consistent throughout your life. Understanding these themes is essential to realizing your uniqueness, and the way in which you naturally interact with and impact others.

Channel of Community (37-40) — A Design of a Part seeking the Whole

Analysis

You are seeking a community where you fit in and feel you belong, whether a small group such as a tribal family environment, or larger community. You need to be part of the dynamics of interconnectedness based on mutual support.

The basis of this dynamic is the bargain, the fair exchange of resources, work/service, skills etc. and therefore the exchange must be based on mutual trust and loyalty to work successfully. Here we enter into bonds with others, friendships, marriage/partnerships or business relationships where the basis is mutual support through exchange. As the energy for this exchange is fed by the emotional system, the emotional wave determines when the dynamics change and need to be adjusted to, so you don't end up feeling trapped in a role that no longer serves you.

Before you enter into any bond, be clear that it is indeed correct for you and that you are ready to uphold your end of the bargain.

Circuitry

This Channel is part of the Ego Circuit of the Tribal Circuit Group.

The Tribal Circuit group is made up of the Ego Circuit which focuses on issues of the material world such as the creation and distribution of resources, and the Defense Circuit with its focus on generating, caring for, and preserving life.

The Tribe forms the foundation of our communities, and our civilization at large. Tribal connections are rooted in the keynote of Support. Coming together through Tribal Circuitry is about interdependence which requires support—supporting each other in the fundamental process of obtaining security, food, and shelter and the creation and distribution of resources.

Here we build structures and care for, nurture, and preserve human life. At its root, this circuit ensures the preservation and continuity of our species.

Channel of Inspiration (8-1) — A Design of a Creative Role Model

Analysis

The 8/1 is about the individual expression of direction, and you are here to express your individuality in a truly unique way. You are a creative role model, here to be an example for others through your unique way of self-expression. You have unique creative skills and an individual way of expression that is not influenced by the outside world, and your unusual presence can have quite some impact. For example, you may dress in a fashion that is radically different and expressive of your uniqueness, and which makes you stand out in a crowd.

You follow your own direction, and your unique way of self expression sets an example that is inspiring and empowering to others, and can support them in their own search for a new direction and creative self-expression. This channel represents the art of expression itself and requires that you come from a place of authenticity that is impervious to any outside influences or conditioning. You need to be recognized for your unique ways and invited to make a creative contribution to be appreciated and have an impact. Otherwise, simply go about your business.

Circuitry

This Channel is part of the Knowing Circuit of the Individual Circuit Group.

The Knowing Circuit empowers one to live uniquely as oneself, and to express one’s distinct individuality. The keynote here is Empowerment—people with Definition in this Circuit are here to empower others by being unique. They can express their own inner knowing in a unique, creative and inspired way that is distinctly different from the Collective Circuit Group’s way of sharing. When individuals connect to each other through this Circuitry, they empower each other individually while remaining themselves in the process. It is through this Circuit that mutation and transformation occurs.

Triple-Split Definition: Three separated areas
  • Quadruple-Split Definition: Four separate areas

  • Finally, there are those without definition (Reflectors). Most importantly, definition or not leads to the core of Human Design knowledge and its value to you, Type.

Understanding your kind of Definition reveals the way energy flows within you and how you relate to others.

Having highs and lows of your wave bringing passion, excitement and even beauty in times of melancholy

  • Appreciating the lows as well as the highs

  • Cultivating patience while waiting for clarity

  • Thriving on the material plane through making deals, bargains or promises that ensure you are valued

Having the ability to know where and how you want to make progress

  • Potentially having a defined sense of your quest or mission in life

  • Conditioning

    The Power of Conditioning

Our Type, Strategy and Inner Authority are reflective of how to be in alignment with our nature, but conditioning often gets in the way of this.

In your BodyGraph there are “open” areas—everything white or not colored in. Each open area is a receptor to conditioning, a doorway for conditioning to enter and keep you from expressing your authentic self. This process starts early on within our family dynamics, and continues throughout life as we are exposed to the various influences of the outside world. The conditioning we experience can be overwhelming, distort our perspective, and influence how we make decisions.

However, once we are aware of this dynamic, we can use our openness in specific areas to gain wisdom in life, rather than identifying with the energetic frequencies that are not part of who we are.

    Root Center

Themes: Physical Adrenalized Pressure, Drive, Stress

Not-Self Theme: Always in a hurry to be free of the pressure.

Not-Self Question: Am I in a hurry to get things done so I can be free of pressure?

    Not-Self Talk

Open Centers create their own decision-making strategies in an attempt to keep us safe from confusion and pain. However, over time, these strategies become unhealthy, leading us to live a life of Not-Self actions. In other words, a life that is not our own.

Not-Self talk reveals your open Centers in action; noticing this talk is essential to deconditioning, as you can finally be aware of whether your actions are being dictated by your True-Self or Not-Self.

Notice your mind and what it is saying or telling you about your life. Notice how the mind will continually try to make your decisions.

Not-Self Talk of the Open Root Center:

    • I’d better hurry up and get this done

    • I have to start something new now

    • How can I get past this limitation?

    • I need something to focus on

    Analysis

You have an open Root Center, meaning you naturally amplify pressure and stress. The trick is not to let it determine your actions. Rushing through everything in a hurry to be free of the pressure is the general theme of having an open Root, but it’s not the way to live.

It is not natural for you to be in a hurry—don't allow yourself to be pressured into making hasty decisions. When you are with others there is a tendency to go hyper or get carried away by the rush; however, running off others’ stress and adrenaline can lead to an overload of pressure, leaving you exhausted and burnt out. You need to give yourself more time and room to discharge and unwind. Don't judge yourself for being lazy; instead, realize that your body needs rest.

Enjoy the rush and adrenaline of stress, but deal with it without becoming overwhelmed by it. Don't succumb to pressure to do things more quickly. This will only result in a never-ending cycle of actions you think need to be done to be free. The more you are pressured, the less you should respond. Learn to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy environmental pressure, and give yourself time to complete the tasks you committed to.

    Healthy vs Unhealthy

There are healthy and unhealthy traits related to having an open Root Center.

    Healthy Traits:

    • Not letting others' stress and pressure determine actions

    • Not being in a hurry

    • Never allowing yourself to be pressured or hurried into making a decision

    • Enjoying the rush and adrenaline of stress and dealing with the pressure without letting it overwhelm you

    Unhealthy Traits:

    • Rushing through everything

    • Hurrying through life to be free of the pressure

    • Trying to get things done as quickly as possible to release this pressure

    • Making hasty decisions under pressure from others

    Sacral Center

Themes: Vital Energy, Respondability, Availability, Sexuality, Fertility

Not-Self Theme: Not knowing when enough is enough.

Not-Self Question: Do I know when enough is enough?

    Not-Self Talk

Open Centers create their own decision-making strategies in an attempt to keep us safe from confusion and pain. However, over time, these strategies become unhealthy, leading us to live a life of Not-Self actions. In other words, a life that is not our own.

Not-Self talk reveals your open Centers in action; noticing this talk is essential to deconditioning, as you can finally be aware of whether your actions are being dictated by your True-Self or Not-Self.

Notice your mind and what it is saying or telling you about your life. Notice how the mind will continually try to make your decisions.

Not-Self Talk of the Open Sacral Center:

    • Let’s keep working

    • We really need to get this done

    • We need to say yes to that, otherwise we might miss out on something

    • I can keep going

    Analysis

You have an open Sacral Center, which at its core means you are very open energetically. The most important thing for you to discover is when enough is enough. You are very susceptible to becoming a conditioned worker, overworking and burning out. Those in your life with defined Sacral Centers, roughly 70% of humanity, have a powerful impact on how you feel energetically. This energy you take in influences your actions, and can lead to taking on too much, over-committing and at times feeling unable to say no. If you do commit while under this influence, once you find yourself alone and away from the energy, you may realize you cannot deal with the workload, losing confidence and leading to exhaustion.

In fact, you are not meant to be a tireless worker. Your body is not equipped to handle and sustain elevated levels of energy. In the long run, this will only overwhelm and exhaust you. You can enjoy the buzz of those with defined Sacrals, letting it vitalize and flow through you, but always ready to withdraw and discharge when your body needs rest. In essence, you can learn to be wise about how the life force energy works. Instead of feeling pressured to do things or get things done, recognize you are able to step back, and take the time to rest when needed.

The Sacral Center is also the source of sexuality. Instead of repressing your sexuality or identifying with others’ sexual conditioning, which can lead to neediness and confusion, enjoy your openness without identifying with any particular role. The open Sacral can teach you to be discerning about engaging in sexual intimacy, and to learn about safe boundaries.

    Healthy vs Unhealthy

These are the healthy and unhealthy traits related to having an open Sacral Center.

    Healthy Traits:

    • Being wise about life and the life force

    • Knowing when enough is enough, knowing when to stop and when to rest

    • Being able to surrender to the buzz of the generator world without getting involved in it

    • Allowing others to vitalize you, letting life flow through you, knowing when to withdraw and discharge

    Unhealthy Traits:

    • Being conditioned to be a worker, overcommitting, overworking, burning out

    • Not knowing when enough is enough

    • Trying to take on too much and overcommitting, being unable to say no, especially when influenced by others

    • Putting yourself under great pressure to work, frequently becoming overwhelmed and exhausted by other people’s energy

    Splenic Center

Themes: Basic/Survival Fears, Well-Being, Immune System, Intuition, Instincts

Not-Self Theme: Holding on to what isn’t good for you.

Not-Self Question: Am I holding on to what isn’t good for me?

    Not-Self Talk

Open Centers create their own decision-making strategies in an attempt to keep us safe from confusion and pain. However, over time, these strategies become unhealthy, leading us to live a life of Not-Self actions. In other words, a life that is not our own.

Not-Self talk reveals your open Centers in action; noticing this talk is essential to deconditioning, as you can finally be aware of whether your actions are being dictated by your True-Self or Not-Self.

Notice your mind and what it is saying or telling you about your life. Notice how the mind will continually try to make your decisions.

Not-Self Talk of the Open Splenic Center:

    • Let's not do that, because it makes me insecure

    • I'm afraid that I will feel inadequate if I do that

    • I'm not going to do that, because I might fail

    • I'm afraid of doing that, because I’m afraid of what the future will bring

    Analysis

You have an open Splenic Center, meaning your physical wellbeing and general sense of feeling good is inconsistent and susceptible to others’ conditioning. This inconsistency is what makes you sensitive and highly attuned to your body’s needs, as well as others’ needs. Among your gifts is the natural ability to diagnose the physical wellbeing of others. You are open to how someone feels and can naturally assess a person’s or even a place’s health.

However, as you are open to another’s wellbeing, or lack thereof, you take in that conditioning and amplify it. This is where you must be careful to choose people and things that are healthy for you, and most importantly, be strong enough to let go of things that are not. By holding on to what isn't good for you out of fear and a need to feel safe and secure, you are harming yourself. There may be many people in your life who make you feel good, but it is vital not to become dependent on anyone or anything, and to let go when necessary for your own sake.

The Splenic Center holds primal fears for our survival and wellbeing, and each Gate represents a primary fear for survival. With an undefined Spleen, these fears are easily magnified; you may therefore tend to hold on to those things and people that help to dissipate these fears, irrespective of whether this is ultimately beneficial for you. It is important that you tackle and handle these fears to cultivate your own sense of security, build physical resilience and avoid becoming dependent on others or potentially overwhelmed by fears.

Constantly chasing that “feel-good,” and trying to address inconsistencies through diet, therapy, relationships or helping others will not fix anything in the long run. Remember, you experience inconsistency and always will. When you are in the aura of someone with a defined Spleen you may feel pressured to act spontaneously in the hope of feeling better, or making the fear go away. While it is correct for a defined Spleen to be spontaneous, this is generally not true for open Spleens who lack reliable or consistent intuition to guide you in the moment. As a general rule, acting spontaneously with an open Spleen potentially jeopardizes your safety and wellbeing. Simply put, do not sacrifice your own security for the sake of feeling good.

Not-Self Question: Am I trying to convince everyone that I am certain?

    Not-Self Talk

Open Centers create their own decision-making strategies in an attempt to keep us safe from confusion and pain. However, over time, these strategies become unhealthy, leading us to live a life of Not-Self actions. In other words, a life that is not our own.

Not-Self talk reveals your open Centers in action; noticing this talk is essential to deconditioning, as you can finally be aware of whether your actions are being dictated by your True-Self or Not-Self.

Notice your mind and what it is saying or telling you about your life. Notice how the mind will continually try to make your decisions.

Not-Self Talk of the Open Ajna Center:

    • We have to figure this out

    • What should I do with my life? I've got to figure out what to do with my life.

    • Where is my next move?

    Analysis

You have an open Ajna Center, meaning the way you process information and conceptualize is not fixed. Your gift is the potential wisdom of being open minded without the need for certainty. You should be ok with saying “I don't know” and being open to what others have to say. You will find there is a lot to learn, and that you truly do not know everything. How many times have you said, “Yes, I’m certain this is the way it is,” only to realize a couple of days later you’re actually doubting what you said?

It’s healthy for you to have a fluid and adaptable way of thinking, soaking up all kinds of data, without identifying with any of it or claiming it as your own truth. The undefined mind is not designed to be consistent but ranges from being completely empty to overflowing with ideas, concepts and opinions. Having no fixed way of processing thoughts will only enhance your intelligence, something you will then be able to share with others. In fact, the very fluid nature of the undefined mind is the source of its dynamic and ever-changing intelligence, and open minds can be extremely creative and intellectual.

As it is not easy to retain a consistent thought process when on your own, people with undefined Ajnas tend either to devalue their mind or try too hard to be intellectual. Those in your life with fixed minds will think and speak in a certain way, which does not mean one is better or worse; there is simply uniqueness. You do not need to worry about not understanding and remembering things, or to compare yourself intellectually to others. Your open mind allows you take in what others are processing mentally, and you can store huge amounts of information, even though you may not have conscious access to what is stored in your memory but wait for it to be triggered or cued. Your gift is the ability to learn from all mental processes, not be fixed in any one way, and to discern which concepts, ideas or insights are of value.

Your natural state is to remain open, not to identify with concepts and beliefs you have acquired along the way. Take advantage of your openness, and appreciate your very dynamic mind, which is a superb processor of information, capable of deep contemplation and acquiring much wisdom about the ways of the world.

    • I've got to understand this and/or make sense of this

    Analysis

You have an open (undefined) Head Center, meaning you are open to new insights, questions, and those mental sparks that “fill” you with inspiration. The open Head Center also has tremendous potential to provide inspiration that can lead to wisdom. However, if you’re too busy questioning and thinking about things that don't matter or have nothing to do with you, then this potential wisdom is being subdued.

At any time, or with anyone, you can easily become lost or overwhelmed by doubt and confusion that actually concerns others. This pressure results in questions, which you end up trying to resolve. The key is in understanding that they are not your questions and it’s probably not worth spending time and energy on finding the answers. It’s very common for people with open Head centers to take on the pressure of other people’s need for answers. However, this simply isn’t healthy; you are not designed to be constricted to any one person's mental process. The potential in your openness is to understand the various thought processes and turn this into wisdom, not be stuck in any one way of thinking.

To have a healthy open Head center is to be open to inspiration and questions from anywhere and anyone. At the same time, realize who the questions belong to without spending your time and energy on them, or feeling compelled to resolve them. Letting go of this pressure of other people’s need for answers results in relaxation, allowing you to enjoy new insights, mental sparks, and inspiration. With an open Head center, you are likely to explore a wide range of stimulating intellectual and also mystical topics that can eventually yield answers you are seeking.

Simply engage the natural drive of wanting to know and exploring the mysteries of life without becoming identified with or overwhelmed by it, and if it becomes a source of confusion or doubt, then it is time to withdraw. Taking this approach will ultimately allow you to see clearly which answers have the potential to lead to clarity, and to discern among the wide range of possibilities what is truly inspiring and merits contemplation.
