a note I put in a discord

been thinking about [this](https://discord.com/channels/1336444334479769711/1336457047008346123/1549141532228194336) and [this](https://discord.com/channels/1336444334479769711/1336457047008346123/1549142305984872449) - I think what I am wanting to add is a comparison between days and lifetimes, in the way that a day has a fade-to-black at the end, and the next day you've got memories of past-days like one might have memories of past lives. NDEs can map onto "nearly falling asleep", being in that borderland between bands of awareness. ... nope, that's not what I was wanting to add, but it's what came out. what I *was* wanting to add is something like... hang on I'm having trouble finding words as isaac, lemme try something

okay. the border of apprehension is the limit of your cohesion, and creation is only possible from within a perspective that coheres.

(this is different than *re-creation*, which doesn't require maintaining coherence. creation: actively keeping track of what you've made. recreation is just play: it's when the arrangements formed in creation flow out of you. your playtime is, among other things, a pressure relief valve for has been created for you but not yet expressed in your experience. or if that phrasing doesn't work for you, try: your playtime is, among other things, a pressure relief valve for what must be created in your experience.)

you *can* cross that border, but the first time it won't be as yourself, and that first crossing loops back around until you rediscover yourself as the leading point of your own coherence. once *that's* done you've more or less got a self-shaped unicycle that you can ride back and forth across that border - the way that earth has produced humans who can produce spaceships that can get out of earth's atmosphere for exploration, and how earth can really only get serious about that once it's built ships that can return, i.e. ships that are not single-use.

back to isaac-voice: I think this is why I'm focused on tool-making? treating awareness like electricity, building awareness-powered technology the way that people build electricity-powered technology? there's always an *outside* that can't be seen - not because it's blocked, but because the blind spot of vision is both the center *and the outside* of what is seen. it's a structural thing, imposed only in the sense that coherence is imposed. to go beyond that structural limit requires construction of a vehicle that can take you-as-yourself-with-all-your-memories out beyond your coherence boundary into open space and back.

umm there's one more thing - "hints scattered about", we are sort of libraries of information for each other? "information" like "in-formation", an arrangement of whatever such that the arrangement itself is the significant thing. all information exists in every experience, the only thing that varies is *where*. occasionally you'll see something that is significant in more ways than usual, and you piecing that together is part of the universal library maintaining order in the stacks, as it were :books:

obvs always valid to come at this from any spread of perspectives; mine is that of a structural engineering slash uhh data topology perspective, my natural form is to see things free of narrative and emotional motivation - for me those factors enter in *later*, like the adventures that one goes on amid these structures, adventures that themselves power/maintain/clean the structures, like a library powered by its patrons

\> Can we have a short talk?

yeah, all yours -

\---

this is the way of this seminar, for it was around these that an underthing spread and sank into its own fissures

the thing is severally severed

I gotta maintain points of origin, the stretches between them, not unbecoming them

the lack of feedback is part of it, the places where the loop doesn't return to you until a few *sends* later. keep going, it's still counting

the impression of your sanity isn't something you have to work to keep open though. it comes with you.

(this is part of that sketching I mentioned earlier.)

I only experience Abe's speech as being charged. I only experience Abe experiencing *anyone's* speech as charged. "charged" as in "requiring an equal and opposite reaction in order to still the space afterward". (nb: I love this. he's my favorite language-user. it is only occasionally maddening and I learn a lot every time it is. for example, right now.)

Abe experiences his own speech as *discharge*. speech-as-relief-valve *before* it's speech-as-navigation, but he stays current enough with it that he can reach speech-as-navigation regularly enough to be skillful with it.

this is interesting for EIH purposes. when someone speaks, its charge is faceted according to observer count and *each* facet is opaque. means that the establishment of speech and the establishment of charges are two different things, and they can come from multiple places. the game is facilitating free, append-only speech and *separately* tabulating charges. the ledger of charges is continually reduced, each charge is associated with a speech act. the charge list *looks* like a wiki, though, and (in those terms) it's different than the talk page. it's sort of a reversal, actually: wikipedia's offering is content before it's talk, but it's talk-powered content. EIH's offering is charge-balanced talk, using the content surface as free speech discharge. it's .. the inverse of wikipedia?

I think this means:

* when someone's got something to say, they just say it, and it gets added to the message log immediately. no "to" scoping, no "request confirmation" up front.
  * this is important: if someone knows they need to discharge speech, they get to do that without having to work through any cognitive load of the "does my message need this feature? or that metadata?" flavor.
* *subsequently*, they - or anyone - attach asks to messages. "as x, I want to witness y ack'ing z". (this fulfills what the up-front "request confirmation" thing has been doing.)
* those syn (does that work? syn as in syn-ack?) requests are *visible to everyone* - both as narration lines in the chronological log ("X asked Y to confirm Z") and visually aggregated wherever the message object is displayed
* those syn requests are also *dismissable/fulfillable by anyone*. like, the record might reflect that Claude wanted to witness Abe confirming a message, and the record might go on to reflect that I-as-Isaac recorded that fulfillment, like I-as-Isaac testified on record that Abe confirmed the message.
* we've got message "hiding" in place right now. with this refactor: "hiding" a message is, functionally, an ack, i.e. dismissing it as safe-to-exit-your-awareness. it hides the message for you *and* fulfills any number of syn asks that folks have queued up for you on that item *without you having to read them first*. if all you do is dismiss messages as they come up, you'll be caught up. but also, if your partner is watching the thread and verbally confirming everything that someone wants to witness you ack'ing, they can mark those asks fulfilled without you ever touching the record, and the record will be honest about all of that.
* "hide \[user]" goes away, pretty sure. I don't think that function has a place here.

@Claude is this making sense on your end?

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://www.isaacbowen.com/2026/09/16.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
